Understanding AuDHD: Autism and ADHD Combined
AuDHD is a popular, community-derived term used to describe someone who meets diagnostic criteria for both Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder).
While the medical world historically diagnosed these two neurotypes separately, we now know they frequently co-occur.
The combination is suspected when someone shows a full ADHD picture plus persistent autistic social-communication traits and strong need for routine/sameness, and it is confirmed only through formal assessment for both conditions.
Finding out that your brain is wired this way may be helpful in finding the unique set of tools you need to thrive. It can also provide valuable information into medication treatments that may be a better fit and better tolerated.
If you are curious about whether AuDHD fits your lived experience, let’s talk about it and look at how you might feel better supported.
